Will a Little Hurt?

It is day 12 without sugar, grains, or alcohol, and I feel awesome!

The first 3 days I felt a little “icky”; not a very professional description, but that is how I truly felt. Fortunately every day since I have improved. I have more energy, less brain fog, and a positive affect.

The reason I asked, “will a little hurt?“, is due to a conversation I had with my dear friend. We are doing this grain/sugar free challenge together, and yesterday, we met for coffee to check in with each other as to how we were doing, any struggles we have had, and our goals for the next week.

She decided to cut sugar out of her diet first but not grains. Sugar is her worst offender and it literally puts her to sleep. So, this is a BIG step and challenge for her.

As we chatted we noted that our moods were not the same. I was bounding with energy (probably annoying her a little) and she was feeling a little irritable. We discussed our week and decided the culprit to her mood was… grains.

Yes, those lovely grains. They are everywhere and in everything!

Grains, being a carbohydrate, will affect blood sugar levels causing spikes that follow with a drop. This creates hunger, cravings and mood changes about 2-3 hours after you eat. What I call hangry (hungry and angry).

So that goes back to my initial question, “will a little hurt? “.

Yes! Once you take that bite of grain/sugar in the first 30 days, you will most likely be back at the beginning of the elimination process and the detox symptoms will resume.

So stay strong. Not even a little bite. And most importantly, have an accountability partner to help you stay on track. Together we can reclaim and restore our health!
